Everybody mad and I’m just sitting here like… “Good business move by the NBA.”
NBA Draft Lottery night is one of the most stressful for a franchise in contention for the No. 1 pick. I mean, damn, you have teams who tank their seasons just to have the opportunity to have the chance to get the top selection. Things were a little more intense in this year’s edition of the draft lottery, as Duke’s generational star Cooper Flagg is up for grabs. Here were the odds for teams to grab the No. 1 pick:
- Utah Jazz: 14.0%
- Washington Wizards: 14.0%
- Charlotte Hornets: 14.0%
- New Orleans Pelicans: 12.5%
- Philadelphia 76ers: 10.5%
- Brooklyn Nets: 9.0%
- Toronto Raptors: 7.5%
- San Antonio Spurs: 6.0%
- Houston Rockets (via Phoenix Suns): 3.8%
- Portland Trail Blazers: 3.6%
- Dallas Mavericks: 1.8%
Well, somehow despite only having a 1.8% chance, it was the Mavericks who walked away with the top selection and most likely Flagg. And this is fresh off the incredibly high-profile Luka Doncic trade to the Los Angeles Lakers that once upon a time had the Mavs looking like they were going to collapse.
But nope … Dallas is now sitting pretty with a roster that will most likely include Flagg, Anthony Davis, Kyrie Irving and Klay Thompson. Yeah, it’s pretty sexy, so sexy that it has many fans thinking the draft lottery is rigged, and let’s be honest, it is.

Adam Silver made Nico Harrison trade Luka to LA to get the NBA ratings as they were tanking, and in exchange for that they rigged the lottery so Dallas gets Cooper Flagg

Mavericks have won the NBA draft lottery.
Is the NBA rigged?
Get a star player to a top market in a trade that made no sense and then suddenly they get the 1st pick with a 1% chance at it? pic.twitter.com/3UXgh5bpOx

The chance of that Draft Lottery resulting in the exact top three of Dallas Mavericks getting #1, San Antonio Spurs getting #2, and Philadelphia 76ers getting #3 was 0.0133%.
That is 1 in 7,532 odds. The NBA lottery is rigged. pic.twitter.com/wro3sOlcbt

Good time to be a conspiracy theorist, for sure, but I can’t help but to admire how good of a business move this is from the NBA — kudos.
