The NBA season is cooking, which means it’s time to dive into the regular-season MVP market.
As the winner of the NBA’s most coveted award in three of the last four seasons, Nikola Jokic will look to make history by winning four out of five.
Celtics legend Bill Russell won four out of five from 1960-61 to 1964-65, and LeBron James did the same between 2008-09 and 2012-13.
Those are the only two names to accomplish the feat in league history.
Jokic opened the season at +400 to win the award, and currently, he is top-four in the league in points, rebounds and assists.
Let’s take a look at the NBA MVP odds at DraftKings Sportsbook as of Jan. 6.
2024-25 NBA MVP odds:
Shai Gilgeous-Alexander: -145 (bet $10 to win $16.90 total)
Nikola Jokic: +130 (bet $10 to win $23 total)
Giannis Antetokounmpo: +1200 (bet $10 to win $130 total)
Jayson Tatum: +2000 (bet $10 to win $210 total)
Is the NBA MVP race kinda already a two-man race?
As of Jan. 6, Jokic is averaging 31.5 points (second), 13 rebounds (third) and 9.7 assists (second), while shooting 55.3% from the field and 47.3% from beyond the arc.
However, despite those gaudy numbers, he’s no longer the favorite, after being tied in the top spot last week.Gilgeous-Alexander is now in the driver’s seat.
As of Jan. 6, SGA’s Thunder are 30-5 on the year (second-best record in the NBA), and have won 15 straight.
Gilgeous-Alexander is third in the league in points per game (31.3) and third in steals (2).
Arguably the most impressive thing about SGA’s season so far is that the Thunder are 22-3 without star big man Chet Holmgreen, who suffered a hip injury in November.
