During his speech at the Democratic National Convention (DNC) in August, President Joe Biden touted his $42 billion broadband internet program as a project akin to FDR’s Rural Electrification Act.

Milton regained power on October 8 to become a Category 5 storm with maximum sustained winds of 165 mph (270 kph) as it barrels towards the west-central coast of Florida and is forecast to make landfall late October 9, according to the National Hurricane Center. Oh, and who helped create and promote the program? Harris, of course.

As rural Americans across the Southeast continue their cleanup efforts in the wake of Hurricane Helene, Hurricane Milton is making landfall in Florida and will leave a trail of destruction. I’m not remiss to say that FEMA, busy handing out money to illegal migrants, won’t be the ones who will save these communities — it will be the communities themselves, the sort of ordinary Americans who defy bureaucrats and fly private helicopters to rescue stranded victims.

These people don’t have a choice. If the federal government can’t roll out an internet program after three years of regulatory snags, how are they going to assist millions of Carolinians and Floridians reeling from two historic storms?
