Boy oh boy, what a kickoff to the NHL season it’s been. Things got started off with the Florida Panthers getting their Stanley Cup championship rings and raising their banner, which has led us into history being made on multiple occasions.
It sparked up when Jessica Campbell became the first female assistant coach in league history, doing so for the Seattle Kraken. Next, we had the Utah Hockey Club make their on-ice debut, doing so at their home arena of Delta Center — oh, and their fans completely smashed beer sales records in the process. Now, we have the first player ever in NHL history to have the exact same first and last name.
Be introduced to Ivan Ivan, a native of Ostrava, Czechia who now plays for the Colorado Avalanche as a center. The 22-year-old competed in the OMJHL for three campaigns with the Cape Breton Eagles prior to becoming a professional. Then, he joined the Avalanche organization, suiting up for their AHL affiliate in the Colorado Eagles. (Yes, he stayed an Eagle)
And then history was made Wednesday when he was a part of the Avalanche NHL roster during their season-opening game taking on the Vegas Golden Knights.
