Traeshon Holden, a wide receiver for the Oregon Ducks, was ejected from Saturday night’s game after apparently spitting on Ohio State cornerback Davison Igbinosun.
Holden, 23, was ejected during the second quarter of the game soon after he caught a 32-yard pass, according to ESPN. Clips circulating on social media of two plays after the catch appear to show Holden spitting into Igbinosun’s facemask in the end zone. Holden then appears to flash a quick smile before running off.

Holden was second on the team with 19 catches for 274 yards in Oregon’s first five games this season, according to Yahoo Sports. The wide receiver is in his second season with the Ducks after previously playing for Alabama, the outlet noted.
Following the penalty, the Ducks were forced to settle for a field goal, allowing Oregon to gain a 15-14 lead, ESPN reported.
Saturday’s game was the first-ever matchup between two top-three teams at Autzen Stadium on the University of Oregon’s campus, according to CBS Sports. Ohio State and Oregon rank second and third, respectively, in the NCAA standings.
Fans and athletes quickly took to X (formerly known as Twitter), to discuss Holden’s antics.
“Traeshon Holden just did one of the absolute dumbest things I’ve seen anyone do on a football field,” sports commentator Jason Kinander wrote.
Former Oregon defensive end Kayvon Thibodeaux got straight to the point, asking, “Bro what?” following the incident.
The game ended in Oregon’s favor, 32-31.
