Two men in Michigan are being accused of dressing up as utility workers, killing a 72-year-old man and leaving his wife tied up, local officials said.

Authorities arrested Carlos Jose Hernandez, 37, and an unnamed suspect in the alleged homicide of Hussein Murray, a 72-year-old man found dead in his basement Friday in Rochester Hills, Michigan, according to the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office (OCSO).

The victim’s wife called 911 after believing her husband had been kidnapped, officials said. Responding deputies said she was discovered bound and duct-taped. (RELATED: ‘Felt God’s Protected Hand’: Video Shows Home Invaders Pose As Deliverymen As They Take Mom, Toddler And Baby Hostage)

“The woman, also 72, told deputies the two male suspects had come to the home the night before, claiming there was a gas leak, but they were not admitted to the home,” the press release said. “When they arrived today, they were allowed in the home and her husband accompanied the two men into the basement, ostensibly to look for the leak.”

The woman was briefly hospitalized following the incident but has since been released, according to an update from the OCSO. Murray’s cause of death was not immediately known due to “the gruesome nature of the injuries,” the OCSO said.

The sheriff’s office later released Ring camera footage of two men who appear to be dressed in utility vests at the front door of the couple’s home.

“We’re DTE. We’re checking for gas leaks,” one man can be heard saying, referencing a Detriot-based energy company, before flashing a what appears to be a clipboard with paperwork.

The first suspect, Hernandez, was found Saturday in Shreveport, Louisiana, over 1,000 miles from where the alleged crime took place, according to the Caddo Parish Sheriff’s Office. A deputy stopped him on I-49 after seeing his vehicle matched a possible homicide suspect description and apprehended him “without incident,” the press release stated.

“Hernandez was booked for multiple warrants out of Ohio for armed robbery, as well as a homicide warrant out of the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office,” officials said. The OCSO said in a post that they are working to have the 37-year-old extradited from Louisiana.

On Monday, the OCSO said they “have taken the second suspect into custody from the Rochester Hills Homicide” after he was found in Plymouth Township and a traffic stop was carried out.

“Nothing further will be added at this point, but we wanted the information out to reassure an anxious community,” the sheriff’s office said.
