Shoutout to Ovi! And shoutout to the DMV!

When it comes to his individual success, Washington Capitals left wing Alex Ovechkin‘s top goal is to catch the legendary Wayne Gretzky for his all-time goal-scoring record, but he’s made some pretty big history along the way, doing so Tuesday night.

Knocking an immaculate puck pass to center Aliaksei Protas during the second period against the Vegas Golden Knights, Ovechkin set himself up nicely and racked up his 700th career assist. And with him already being at that mark in the scoring department, it officially clinched his membership into the 700/700 club. Ovechkin is only the sixth player in NHL history to record 700 goals and 700 assists in a career.

The 39-year-old joins Gretzky, Jaromir Jagr, Phil Esposito, Gordie Howe and Marcel Dionne in the club.

It’s crazy to me that Alex Ovechkin has been so elite in his career that he’s now a member of the 700/700 club, he’s going to eventually break Wayne Gretzky’s all-time scoring record, but yet he only has one championship. The man should have at least two or three titles, but I chalk that up to bad management in D.C.

But hey, at least he has one ring and is about to have the record of “The Great One” — still some legendary ish.
