Costco, a famous retail company, opened its first branch in the Californian city of Napa to great acclaim Friday.
The new location is estimated to create 350 jobs in the area, according to Vice Mayor of Napa Bernie Narvaez, ABC 7 News reported. The store will offer the largest wine selection in the United States of America, the retailer said. “It’s humongous, it has some really cool things you would not think Costco would carry but it adds flavor to what we already have in the area,” Justin Altares, a Californian resident, stated.
“Well there was people in line waiting overnight, I think a couple of days so it seems like the demand is right there,” Narvaez said.
“Anything that creates jobs is good for the economy, good for our business community, you know it adds competition,” the vice mayor added.
Cory Culp, a Costco regular, expressed enthusiasm for the boast about the wine selection. “They better, that’s what we’re here for!” he said. “We’re wine country so they better have a good selection.”
Video of a long line of shoppers attending Costco’s grand opening was shared by The Press Democrat, a Californian news outlet. “The doors of Napa County’s first Costco opened early Friday morning to a long line of shoppers, both local and from neighboring counties,” the outlet wrote.

“It’s only 10 minutes from my house now and it’s probably going to be detrimental to my wallet,” local resident Scott Simpson told The Press Democrat.
“It’s exciting,” Napa Mayor Scott Sedgley said. “The most asked question over the last year has not been when homes are going to be built or a highway project completed. It’s been — when will Costco open? People like getting good value for their dollar and now they don’t have to drive too far to get that.”
Locals told ABC 7 News that previously they would have to drive as much as an hour to shop at the nearest Costco store.
