“Much deserved” is an extreme understatement.
Ever since winning the 2023-24 Stanley Cup championship, the Florida Panthers have been busy handing out extension after extension, and here we go again as head coach Paul Maurice has now been given a long-term deal.
The Panthers made the announcement Tuesday that Maurice and the franchise came to an agreement on an extension. Prior, Maurice was in the last season of his three-year contract, and after leading the Cardiac Cats to an NHL championship, it was only a matter of time before something got done. On top of that, he led Florida to a Stanley Cup berth in his very first season with the team. As the skipper of the Panthers, Maurice came into Tuesday with 98 career wins (regular season). It’s the third most in franchise history behind Peter DeBoer’s 103 and leader Jacques Martin’s 110. When it comes to the playoffs, nobody has the success that Maurice does, who has 29 victories in the postseason with the Cats — every other coach combined has 25.
And it’s all highlighted by the first Stanley Cup championship in Florida Panthers history.
