John Lennon’s longtime friend wrote about the legendary artist’s alleged romp with another woman, right under Yoko Ono’s nose.
Elliot Mintz wrote about Lennon and Ono’s marriage in his new book, “We All Shine On: John, Yoko & Me,” and gave fans an inside look at the star’s seemingly laissez-faire attitude about sex. Mintz highlighted a particular incident in 1972. He alleges that he attended a small, intimate gathering with the couple and Lennon ended up having “loud, raucous sex” with another woman at the party while Ono sat there listening to the entire thing, according to People.
Mintz said the famous Beatles singer got drunk while watching the presidential election results between Richard Nixon and George McGovern at Jerry Rubin’s apartment and things quickly took a turn.
He said Lennon became quite intoxicated and ended up having such loud sex with the other woman that his infidelity was quite obvious to his wife and the other guests.
“Throughout it all, Yoko sat on the sofa, in stunned, mortified silence, as other guests began awkwardly getting up to leave – until they realized that their coats were in the bedroom where John was having sex,” Mintz wrote in his book, according to People.
Mintz shared his perspective on the alleged incident.
“He was placing [his wife] in the most embarrassing position that you could ever place a woman in – having a romp in the hay in another room with thin walls while your wife was attending a small party and could hear everything,” he told People.
“Yoko is a very stoic woman, but it would have severe consequences,” he said.
Mintz explained the strain this exchange had on Ono and Lennon’s marriage and said he maintains a close bond with Ono to this day.
He said Ono told him, “I can forgive him, but I don’t know if I can ever forget what happened. I don’t know if it will ever be the same,” according to People. (RELATED: Martha Stewart Makes Bombshell Confession In Documentary Trailer)
“The reality is, as I would learn over the years in the bad behavior department, John would say to me, ‘Ellie,’ which is what he called me, ‘I’m not always the ‘Imagine’ guy,’” Mintz said.
Lennon was murdered Dec. 8, 1980.
