Missouri Attorney General Andrew Bailey announced Thursday that he is launching an investigation into Google for allegedly censoring conservatives.
Bailey noted that Google is the largest search engine in the country and the alleged censorship is occurring “during the most consequential election in our nation’s history.”

“These claims are totally false,” a Google spokesperson told Reuters. “Search serves all our users, and our business rests on showing useful information to everyone — no matter what their political beliefs are.”

Google displayed a misattributed “fact-check” in 2018 on a Daily Caller article, which has since been removed, according to the Daily Caller News Foundation (DCNF). Google eventually suspended the fact-check feature because of a DCNF investigation.
The Poynter Institute attributed the inaccurate fact-checks to faulty algorithms and not bias from the tech company, according to DCNF. Groups like the Poynter Institute for Media Studies, Inc. collaborated with the State Department to target conservative media, according to a House Business Committee report.
After the first attempted assassination on Trump, Republican Kansas Sen. Roger Marshall sent a letter to Google’s CEO, Sundar Pichai and announced he was launching an investigation into the company’s alleged bias and censorship.

In 2023, Republican Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis said he was not opposed to regulating the tech giant over its alleged censorship of conservatives in search results during his campaign for president.
