‘Young Frankenstein’ Actress Teri Garr Dead at 79

Actress Teri Garr, most known for her work in “Young Frankenstein,” died Tuesday in Los Angeles at the age of 79.

Garr endured a lengthy battle with multiple sclerosis before her death, which she detailed extensively in her autobiography, “Speedbumps: Flooring It Through Hollywood,” according to TMZ. She will forever be remembered as a comedy legend and a passionate actress that boasted over 150 credits over the course of her four-decade long career in Hollywood.

The famous actress was recognized for her role as Sydney Pollack, alongside the character played by Dustin Hoffman in “Tootsie,” for which she earned an Oscar nomination for Best Supporting Actress.

She started her career in dancing, which included appearances in six Elvis Presley musicals, according to TMZ. Garr later pivoted to acting, where her self-described big break came during a 1968 episode of “Star Trek.”

The talented star went on to star in the 1974 thriller “The Conversation” from Francis Ford Coppola as well as “Young Frankenstein” before taking on Steven Spielberg’s 1977 sci-fi classic, “Close Encounters of the Third Kind,” according to TMZ.

Her long list of credits include “Mr. Mom,” “M*A*S*H” and “Friends.” Other notable credits include “After Hours,” “One from the Heart,” “The Bob Newhart Show” and “The Player.”

Garr’s health failed in recent years. In addition to her MS diagnosis, the actress experienced an aneurysm in 2006, according to TMZ. She fully retired from acting in 2011.

The famous actress leaves behind her daughter Molly, who she and her ex-husband John O’Neil adopted, according to TMZ.

Funeral information has not been publicly shared. Her official cause of death has not yet been confirmed.
