I’m diggin’ this move from the White Sox.

On his 42nd birthday Tuesday, late night news broke that Will Venable will become the next manager of the Chicago White Sox, the 44th all-time for the franchise. The White Sox themselves haven’t publicly commented, but MLB’s official website has confirmed the news. Venable has a rich history when it comes to baseball. From 2018-19, he spent time with the Chicago Cubs as president Theo Epstein’s special assistant, and then later became their third base coach in 2020. In 2021, he left the organization to become a bench coach for the Boston Red Sox, working in that role in both ’21 and ’22. Most recently, he was with the Texas Rangers, working as Bruce Bochy’s associate manager the last two seasons.

He won a World Series championship ring with the Rangers in 2023.

Solid hire by the White Sox … no, a strong hire by the White Sox.

Honestly, under the current circumstances, I don’t think Chicago could have done better than Will Venable. Hell, I didn’t think they would do as well as this. I mean, damn, they managed to get a guy with a sexy resume (being with iconic clubs like the Cubs and Red Sox, winning a World Series with the Rangers), it’s pretty impressive. Venable most certainly could have held out for a better job.

The White Sox deserve some kudos for this, hell of a way to start your recovery from a dreadfully historic 41-121 season.
