Should We Prepare For ‘The Worst Case Scenario For The Country’?

Should We Prepare For ‘The Worst Case Scenario For The Country’? Should We Prepare For ‘The Worst Case Scenario For The Country’?

Yes. After everything we’ve seen the past four years, the answer is very obviously yes.

But it’s not just a vibe. There’s a very real chance we could actually wind up with the “worst case scenario for the country.”

CNN’s polling analysis predicts a narrow 270-268 poll in Kamala Harris’ favor, eking out the win by holding onto the blue wall of Michigan, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin. As commentator Ben Shapiro points out, however, the election could have easily flipped the opposite way — with the exact same map giving the opposite result. If only D.C. beancounters were halfway decent at their jobs … (Click here to watch ‘Rigged’)

How is this possible? Well, the Census Bureau screwed up the 2020 Census big time. They even admitted it after the fact. But it was too late, the Electoral College had already been re-adjusted based on the new, incorrect numbers.

While Texas and Florida both gained Electoral College votes this time around, both were undercounted by the Census by 1.92% and 3.48% respectively. Should they have gained more votes?

Except for Illinois, all the other undercounted states were reliably red. Arkansas was undercounted by a whopping 5.04%. Meanwhile, New York was overcounted by 3.44%, along with Delaware (+5.45), Hawaii (+6.79) and other blue states. Utah (+2.59) and Ohio (1.49%) were the only red states overcounted.

New York actually lost one vote, but should it have lost more? Should these overcounted blue states have lost to the undercounted red states?

It’s tough to say; I’m certainly not a math guy, and the distribution of Electoral College votes is wonkishly complex. One estimate puts it at roughly 565,000 per one Electoral College vote — and we’re talking millions of votes moved around here. It’s a possibility worth considering: if Texas and Florida had been correctly counted, they could have had enough votes to secure the win for Trump even with Harris carrying the blue wall.

It’s unlikely to matter, however, if Trump does lose with the CNN map. If you thought 2020 appeals were bad, just wait until Team Trump tries to recount the Census. It’s never going to happen — and it’ll tear the country apart even more as a result.

Yet it’s still worth noting that, as always, these little logistical errors only ever seem to go one way. And if you thought polarization is bad now, just wait until Americans spend another four years believing they were cheated.
