We have major news to deliver out of the NBA.
The San Antonio Spurs made the announcement Wednesday that their head coach Gregg Popovich suffered from a mild stroke at the beginning of November. The situation led to his recent absence from the franchise. All we knew at the time was that it was medical and his missed action would be indefinite. Now we know that Pop is dealing with something serious. (RELATED: Shaq Calls Out Sixers’ Joel Embiid After His Season Debut Spirals Down The Toilet)
In the Spurs’ official statement, the organization said that Popovich’s stroke happened Nov. 2 at Frost Bank Arena. A week and some change after the fact (11 days as of Nov. 13), San Antonio says their skipper has kicked off a rehabilitation program and “is expected to make a full recovery.” With that being said, there is no current timetable for Pop to make a comeback, but he could potentially miss the rest of the 2024-25 season.
Taking over for the 75-year-old Popovich as interim head coach is assistant Mitch Johnson.

First off, I wish nothing but a speedy recovery for Pop, and I know it might be a little too early to talk about this, but I think we should ask the question: Have we potentially seen our last days of Gregg Popovich being in the NBA?
Something like this could spark up a retirement, for sure, or at the very least give us a farewell tour. Don’t get me wrong, I hope my speculation is way off, but it’s just something to think about.
