Over the weekend, Ramaswamy said he expected “certain agencies to be deleted outright” under President-elect Donald Trump’s administration, which led many to speculate he was referring to the Department of Education. While on CNN News Central on Monday, Khanna responded to Ramaswamy’s warning of “deep cuts.”
“First of all, look at the real-world impact that that would have. It would mean kids who are getting Pell grants to be able to go to college, that would be in jeopardy. It would mean a lot of schools, Title I schools, that get federal funding, that would be in jeopardy. If you have a child who has autism or special needs, your education of your child, if they go to public school, would be in jeopardy.”
Ramaswamy began calling for the department to be abolished last summer while running his own campaign for president. Since then, Trump created the Department of Government Efficiency under Ramaswamy and Tesla CEO Elon Musk. Meanwhile, Khanna credited the investment into education between 1910 and 1940 for making America the superpower it is.
“So as a student of public schools and as someone who took out over $100,000 of loans to have a shot in America, I’m deeply concerned,” Khanna said. “So I’m deeply concerned with just this kind of blanket ‘let’s cut education.’”

Khanna received a bachelor’s degree in economics from the University of Chicago and a law degree from Yale University.
The reason Ramaswamy cited for wanting to get rid of the department is its practice of using “money as a cudgel” in order to get schools to comply with its “toxic and racial agendas.”
