Katy Perry successfully bullied a woman in court and won, marking another unfair victory by a pretentious celebrity.
Perry and her millions of dollars and clout somehow felt threatened by an Australian fashion designer with the same name, so she attacked her in court and won. The woman from Australia was born Katie Perry, while the famous singer’s real name is actually Katheryn Elizabeth Hudson. The Australian Perry had a fashion label that used to bear her real name, until Perry fought her over trademark rights. The famous singer effectively battled the other woman in court for using her own birth name for her brand, and now the designer has lost everything she worked so hard to build. This is everything that’s wrong with Hollywood.
The verdict was delivered in an Australian court Nov. 21, the Australian Perry told the New York Post. An innocent person can no longer operate her long-time business with her own legal name. Fake Katy Perry for the win — seriously?
The trademark battle has been running its course through the legal system since 2009. The famous lady now gets to continue using her name for fame, even though it’s an alias, while the real person with that birth name is left at a total disadvantage. How do celebrities get away with this?
This is a classic case of selfishness and it oozes pretentiousness. The designer wasn’t trying to play on Perry’s stardom in any way. Her designs in no way reflected the star’s fashion style, nor did there seem to be any references to the star along the way. It’s simply a case of someone being told they can’t build a brand that bears their own name because the mean, selfish rich lady decided to take that name instead.
“I have lost everything, including my trademark,” the designer told the New York Post. “As you can imagine I’m devastated.”
The lasting effects of the famous singer’s bullying cannot be denied. Sheer greed and a clear abuse of power appear to be at work here, and it makes me sick.
The Australian Perry hardly seems to be a threat to the international star, and had she not launched this overzealous lawsuit, most of us wouldn’t have even known the fashion brand existed. You know who did know about it, though? The loyal customers who invested in the designer’s hard work — the work that she can no longer brand using her actual name.
This ridiculous example of pure spite is completely unnecessary, and it has caused harm.
“My label has been a dream of mine since I was 11 years old and now that dream that I have worked so hard for, since 2006, has been taken away,” the Australian Perry told the New York Post.
“What do I do now? I will dust myself off and figure what the next steps are. Perhaps move to somewhere in the world where the name Katie Perry has no meaning,” she said. (RELATED: Kim Kardashian’s Entitled Kid Is Already Threatening To Sue People At Age 11)
The spoiled singer thinks she runs the world, and isn’t afraid to leave a path of destruction behind her to prove her point.
The famous Perry is also locked in a legal battle against an 85-year-old veteran over a $15 million California property. It seems she takes great pride in flexing her fake clout, with no concern for how others will be affected by it.
