Legendary singer Elton John revealed Monday that he has lost vision in his right eye due to an infection.
John updated fans on his current health issue during a Nov. 25 interview with Robin Roberts on “Good Morning America.”
“It kind of floored me, and I can’t see anything. I can’t read anything. I can’t watch anything,” he admitted, explaining that this medical setback has affected every aspect of his life, including his ability to continue creating music.
The EGOT winner addressed the topic of his health candidly during the interview.
“It’s been a while since I’ve done anything. I just have to get off my backside,” he told Roberts.
John went on to explain the series of events that led to his diminished vision.
“I unfortunately lost my eyesight in my right eye in July because I had an infection in the South of France,” the music icon said. “It’s been four months now since I haven’t been able to see. My left eye is not the greatest.”
John tried to remain optimistic about the situation, despite the crippling toll it has taken on his life.
“There’s hope and encouragement that it will be okay, but I’m kind of stuck in the moment, because I can do something like this, but going into the studio and recording, I don’t know. Because I can’t see a lyric for start,” he said.
The famous singer said “It’s never fortunate for anything like this to happen,” but he’s looking forward with optimism.
“I’m proud of my attitude toward myself and what’s going on,” he said. (RELATED: ‘Not Ready To Die’: Amy Grant Provides Health Update After Suffering Two Major Health Scares)
