Memphis guard Tyrese Hunter scored a total of 26 points, with 17 of them coming in the second half to put his Tigers over the top with a 99-97 overtime victory against back-to-back national champion UConn. Ranked No. 2 in the nation, the Huskies suffered the mammoth upset Monday in the Maui Invitationalās first round. From the three-point line, the 5-0 Tigers were mesmerizing, hitting 12 out of their 22 tries from behind the arc, with Hunter in particular hitting seven of his 10 attempts. Adding to Memphisā production was guard PJ Haggerty with 22 points and five assists, while guard Colby Rogers contributed 19 points and forward Dain Dainja put up 14.
Heading into the game, UConn had 17 straight victories on their resume dating back to February 2024, with that streak now being cleared out.

And to make the loss that much worse for the Huskies, itās head coach Dan Hurley who is partly responsible for the defeat with a little boneheaded-ness at the end of the game.
Dan Hurley has been cussing out the refs the entire game and FINALLY gets called for a technical foul.
Just significantly hurt his team, as Memphis now leads #2 UConn 96-92 with 40 seconds left.
