“Who’s The Boss?” star Danny Pintauro shared shocking images on social media Dec. 1, revealing he required emergency surgery after a scooter accident on Thanksgiving night.
The famous actor said he underwent surgery after things went very wrong while he was riding his scooter. He admitted he didn’t know how serious his injuries were until well after the crash. Pintauro posted a short video clip and images of himself in a hospital bed with tubes in his throat, as he explained the bike lane he was riding on was “suddenly blocked with cones.”
“I was forced to choose between a van and a pylon,” he said. “The pylons hurt!!”
The actor admitted his injuries seemed manageable at first, but things took a very sudden turn.
“Have a terrible scrape on my arm and I was pretty convinced I had broken my arm. The next morning it was a whole lot better so I didn’t worry as much,” he wrote on Instagram.
He added that he then began feeling pain in his chest, stomach and shoulders, and the sensation continued to intensify.
“I could barely breathe,” he said.
Pintauro’s husband Wil Tabares drove him to the hospital where he underwent a CAT scan, X-ray and blood tests. That’s when he discovered just how serious his injuries really were.
“I had an infection in my bloodstream due to a tear in my stomach lining – air and stomach acid, etc, were escaping into my abdomen,” he said.
“It’s been the most excruciating pain I’ve ever felt in my whole life. So I had to have emergency surgery last night to repair the tear,” Pintauro told his fans.
“The surgery went well and now that it’s fixed, the pain is pretty much gone away, although I’m still very sore,” Pintauro said.
He could be seen laying in the hospital bed with a number of tubes visible in a video.
“They just took the intubation tube out, but I have to leave another tube in my stomach for three days to keep removing the acids so as to not upset the stitches and repair they did. Which also means that I won’t be eating or drinking anything for the next three days,” the actor continued.
“They always say this but it’s very true, if I had waited any longer, I could have died,” Pintauro wrote.
He continued, “My body was the one who told me something was absolutely wrong. My wonderful husband Will drove me here and has been by my side for the whole thing.”
The actor praised the doctors and nurses at Memorial Care Miller Hospital. (RELATED: Jay Leno Sports Black Eye And Battered Face After Scary Fall)
“Keep me in your prayers for the next few days that the repair sticks and that I can get out of here soon,” he asked his followers.
“This is my first major surgery I, first emergency surgery EVER but I kept it together,” Pintauro said as he admitted the procedure “was absolutely terrifying.”
