The Left is finally telling the (partial) truth about abortion

The Left is finally telling the (partial) truth about abortion The Left is finally telling the (partial) truth about abortion

During her 2024 campaign for president, Vice President Kamala Harris used abortion as a cudgel. The tactics used by the Harris-Walz campaign, Democrats as whole, and the legacy media include telling women their very lives are at stake because of the Supreme Court’s Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization decision sending abortion law back to the states. The lies were obvious before Nov. 5. But now that the election is over, some are finally admitting abortion is, actually, still accessible.

These acknowledgments are significant considering just how much fearmongering took place in the lead-up to President-elect Donald Trump’s second victory. The Harris-Walz campaign and its sycophants seized on emotion and ignorance, despite data showing their narratives to be false.

A recent article from the Associated Press finally tells the truth: “Overturning [Roe. v. Wade] and enforcing abortion bans has changed how women obtain abortions in the U.S. But one thing it hasn’t done is put a dent in the number of abortions being obtained. There have been slightly more monthly abortions across the country recently than there were in the months leading up to the June 2022 ruling, even as the number in states with bans dropped to near zero.”

This would come as a shock if one were to have solely paid attention to narratives spouted by Harris and the Democrats. During the 2024 campaign season, the drumbeat from the radical pro-abortion ticket was that Trump quite literally took away a woman’s right to choose. And Harris and her cohorts have repeatedly pointed to Trump as the reason why some women have died from abortion-related complications. In reality, women can still access abortion. And the tragic, post-abortion deaths? Those have been a result of inadequate and late medical care, not the laws on the books.

The oft-repeated claim that Trump, by way of Supreme Court nominations, single-handedly took away female freedoms was supposed to energize support for Harris. It did no such thing. Claiming American women are living in an oppressive culture is a hard sell considering how much freedom we actually do have.

Even since Roe was struck down, abortions have gone up. While surgical abortions are down, medication abortions have risen as a result of the nationwide change in laws. This is federalism in action. Some states have banned the procedure outright, except in cases of life of the mother, rape, or incest. Others, such as California, Illinois, and New York have, unsurprisingly, rather permissive abortion laws in the post-Dobbs world.

These wide-ranging legal realities in no way translate to female oppression. However, you would not know that based on the last year (and more) from the Democratic Party.

Pro-lifers have their work cut out for them, even with the Dobbs victory. Before the election, Trump made it clear he would veto a national abortion ban if one came to his desk. Trump’s stated plans and the reality of an America where abortion still exists, and numbers have even increased, continue to disprove leftist rhetoric.

If anything, there is much more work yet to do in a post-Roe world. The Dobbs decision was a much-needed step in the right direction. It also inspired abortion proponents to lie about the “need” for abortion even more. Despite the data and the lack of success during the Harris campaign, those pro-abortion lies will continue well into Trump’s second term.
