Legendary singer and performer Patti Smith collapsed on stage in Brazil after suffering from migraines for days.
Smith was beginning a headlining set Wednesday with Soundwalk Collective at the Teatro Cultura Artística in São Paulo, Brazil, when she collapsed, according to local news outlet Folha de S.Paulo. The 78-year-old artist had been suffering from severe migraines for days, the theater said. Smith was roughly 30 minutes into her performance when the incident unfolded. She was reading a statement about climate change at the time, the Brazilian outlet reported.

Smith later returned to the stage in a wheelchair and engaged with the crowd, singing before apologizing for having to cut the program short. Videos of her in the wheelchair were widely circulated online.
“Unfortunately, I got sick, and the doctor said I can’t finish. So we will have to figure something out. And I feel very badly,” Smith told the crowd from the wheelchair, according to TMZ.
Members of the audience shouted “we love you” as they assured her that her health was their priority.
The Soundwalk Collective took to Instagram with an update Thursday, saying “it is with much sadness that we decided to cancel tonight’s performance at Teatro Cultura Artistica. Patti is now recovering strongly but our caring doctors says she needs a little more time to be at her best.”
The thanked fans for their support and signed off with Smith’s name as well as their own.

The famous singer spoke out about the incident in a lengthy Instagram post Thursday, assuring fans that she was doing well, and stating that her incident was being exaggerated.
“This is letting everyone know that I am fine. A grossly exaggerated account is being spread by the press and social media,” she said.
“I had some post migraine dizziness. Had a small incident, left the stage, and returned 10 minutes later and talked to the people, told them I was fine and sang them Wing and Because the night. I was checked out by an excellent Doctor and was absolutely fine.” (RELATED: Bristol Palin Shares Shocking Videos Highlighting Health Scare)
Smith signed off by writing, “Please do not accept any other story . With all the strife in the world, this explainable incident does not merit so much attention. Thank you everyone for your concern. Trust me I am fine.”
