Cam Skattebo, a superstar running back for Arizona State, has been reportedly hit with a lawsuit by an ex-teammate over a golf cart accident that allegedly caused major injury.
Former ASU walk-on offensive lineman Mattheos Katergaris is the teammate who named Skattebo in the lawsuit, according to a report from the Phoenix New Times’ Zach Buchanan. Back in May, Katergaris sued the Arizona Board of Regents but has now included Skattebo in the case. Katergaris is reportedly seeking around $300,000 in damages on a negligence count from both Skattebo and the Arizona Board of Regents.
The golf cart crash allegedly took place July 31, 2023. It’s claimed by Katergaris that he and a teammate were sitting down on the back of a golf cart that was headed to the Sun Devils‘ locker room from the practice facility. A day prior, the team was allegedly told the back seat had a 600-pound weight limit, which is around two big-sized football players.

The lawsuit alleges that Skattebo “then jumped on the back of the golf cart” and “jumped up and down on the rear bench as the golf cart traveled a considerable distance. Subsequently, the rear bench of the golf cart structurally failed.”
Katergaris then claims that he fell off the cart and “sustained serious bodily injury, which resulted in months of medical care.”
ASU already paid for Katergaris’ treatments, with the school also conceding that they have “reason to believe Defendant Skattebo boarded the back of the golf cart while two other players were sitting on the rear section” and “admits that the rear bench of the golf cart broke.”
