Gas prices continued to fall on Friday as the national average for a gallon of regular gas decreased to $3.296, according to AAA. This is the lowest average price for a gallon of regular gas since this past winter when gas averaged $3.212 per gallon.

It’s also over 16 cents cheaper than last month, when regular gas was $3.462 per gallon. The decrease in gas prices has been felt throughout the country, as there are now ten states where the average price for regular gas is below $3 per gallon: Texas, Oklahoma, Missouri, Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Tennessee, Kentucky, Alabama, and South Carolina. Kansas is on the verge of being the 11th state soon, coming in with an average price for regular gas of $3.004 per gallon.
Gas prices remain an important issue heading into the 2024 presidential election. With President Joe Biden deciding not to seek reelection, Vice President Kamala Harris, now the Democratic presidential nominee, has to indicate how she will address the country’s high gas prices and energy costs and how both affect the economy and people’s finances.
While prices have fluctuated in 2024, they have decreased in recent weeks and months. Nevertheless, gas prices remain higher than when former President Donald Trump was in office.
