Yes! Yes, he is! But not like how you think.
Golden State Warriors superstar Stephen Curry is going back to college to provide assistance to both the Davidson College men’s and women’s basketball programs when it comes to their on-court success. And he’ll be doing so as the assistant general manager at the university.
Now let’s not get ahead of ourselves, Curry isn’t leaving the NBA and riding into retirement, but he does have interest in Davidson’s college hoops program. In fact, he even has goals of having them return to their past status as a mid-major force. (RELATED: Scott Jennings Blasts ‘Cheating’ LeBron James In Most Blunt Way Imaginable)
For Curry, the position at the school will be on a volunteer basis, and expectations are that the ex-Davidson superstar will be having a big role when it comes to fundraising and recruiting.
“The Davidson experience is top notch,” said Curry. “My journey from when I got to Davidson in 2006 to now demonstrated that I had the opportunity to play basketball at the highest level, got a great education, an amazing network through the Davidson alumni and continue to wave the Davidson flag. I want very talented, high-character student athletes to have that same experience.”
Very well played by Davidson if you ask me.
With the transfer portal, contracts and roster management now being full-time in college sports, you’re starting to see more and more universities hire general managers. Davidson is getting ahead of the game with the superstar element.
Expect to see these guys in the March Madness tournament consistently going forward.
