(The Center Square) – U.S. Rep. Beth Van Duyne, R-Texas, criticized the IRS for failing to protect taxpayer information, pointing to reports of sensitive data breaches involving as many as 5,000 contractors.
She spoke of over a dozen contractors that retained access to a sensitive IRS system despite having unfavorable background checks. The congresswoman accused Democrats of ignoring the previous leaks of taxpayer information that were used against President Donald Trump.
“If Democrats were serious about protecting taxpayer information, they would have raised concerns when illegally obtained data was used to attack Americans,” Van Duyne said at a committee hearing this week. “Stop with the gaslighting and protecting the waste, fraud, and abuse that is being uncovered.”
