JORGE MARTINEZ: Green Cards For Patriots, Not Terrorist Sympathizers

In recent days, the arrest and impending deportation of Mahmoud Khalil, a former Columbia University student, have ignited a critical conversation about our Nation’s immigration policies.

This incident underscores the urgent need to reassess how the federal government allocates the privilege of U.S. residency. It is imperative that we grant green cards to individuals who genuinely support and appreciate America rather than to those who endorse terrorist organizations. Khalil’s case is alarming. His actions reportedly created an environment of fear among Jewish students, and he was detained for distributing pro-Hamas propaganda on campus. Hamas, recognized as a terrorist organization by the U.S. government, is responsible for numerous attacks against civilians. Providing a platform for such groups within our borders is not only unacceptable but also dangerous.

The media and the Left are trying to frame this as a free speech issue, which it is not. Free speech has nothing to do with the targeting of Jewish American students, pro-terrorist activism, vandalism and pushing civil unrest, which Khalil has done. He’s a “senior activist” of a group named Columbia University Apartheid Divest, which has called for violence to be “the only path forward” and has openly supported “liberation by any means necessary, including armed resistance.”

Khalil doesn’t have an inerrant right to be in America. He is a guest. Anyone with common sense can clearly see that he has outstayed his welcome.

President Donald J. Trump and his administration have taken decisive steps to address these threats. Following directives to scrutinize the immigration status of individuals involved in antisemitic activities, Khalil’s deportation proceedings were initiated. This reflects a broader commitment to ensuring that those who wish to harm our Nation or its allies are not granted the privilege of residency.

Our immigration system should prioritize individuals who align with American values. Granting green cards to those who support terrorist organizations is a betrayal of our Nation’s principles. Instead, we should welcome immigrants who contribute positively to our society, uphold our laws, and respect the freedoms we cherish.

The Trump-Vance Administration’s efforts to secure our borders further exemplify this commitment. The reinstatement of the national emergency concerning the southern border has facilitated the allocation of resources to enhance border security.

This move is crucial in preventing individuals with malicious intent from entering our country.

Moreover, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s introduction of the CBP Home app, featuring a self-deportation option, offers immigrants the opportunity to depart voluntarily, potentially allowing for legal return in the future. While some may view this initiative with skepticism, it provides a humane alternative for those seeking to rectify their immigration status.

The Trump-Vance Administration’s policies are yielding tangible results. Immigration detention centers have reached their maximum capacity of 47,600 detainees, reflecting intensified efforts to detain and deport illegal aliens.

This demonstrates a steadfast commitment to enforcing our laws and protecting our citizens.

Critics argue that these measures are harsh or discriminatory. However, it is essential to distinguish between those who seek to harm our mation and those who aspire to be part of it. By focusing our immigration policies on individuals who support and appreciate America, we strengthen our national security and uphold the values that define us.

The case of Mahmoud Khalil serves as a stark reminder of the importance of vigilance in our immigration system. We must ensure that the privilege of U.S. residency is granted to those who genuinely support our Nation, not to individuals who endorse terrorist organizations.

The Trump-Vance Administration’s proactive measures in securing our borders and enforcing immigration laws are steps in the right direction, reflecting a commitment to the safety and prosperity of all Americans.
