The Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLW) has responded to an active shooter incident Thursday at the Florida State University (FSU) campus in Tallahassee, according to a statement. Police have reportedly taken a suspect into custody.

Two law enforcement sources told CNN that law enforcement has a suspect in custody after a reported shooting on the campus

“FDLE is actively engaged in the incident on FSU’s campus, and we will update the public with more information as soon as possible,” the policing agency said in a statement Thursday at 12:40 p.m. Eastern Time. “Continue to shelter in place. Police have responded to an active shooter call at the Student Union. Stay alert for more information,” FSU said in a post on social media. “All classes and university events including athletics events scheduled for Thursday, April 17, 2025, have been cancelled. Individuals not already on the main campus at this time should avoid coming to the Tallahassee main campus.”

“Lock and stay away from all doors and windows and be prepared to take additional protective measures,” a school alert said, the Associated Press (AP) reported.

A hospital close to the campus is treating people affected by the incident, Sarah Cannon, a spokesperson with Tallahassee Memorial Healthcare, said. She could not confirm to the AP how many people in their care. She said the incident was ongoing.
