Actress Mikey Madison reportedly passed on the opportunity to play a role in an upcoming “Star Wars” movie, weeks after winning her first Oscar.
She declined after Shawn Levy of “Deadpool & Wolverine” fame, who was tapped to head up the yet-to-be-named film, offered her a role, sources told Variety.
Madison is 26-years old and fresh off her very first Oscar nomination and subsequent win for her leading role in “Anora.” The “Star Wars” franchise has seen a sharp decline in recent years and it appears Madison felt she could do far better, given her recent success. Whatever her reason for reportedly opting out of the film, it’s necessary to put matters in perspective. The actress was cast for “Anora” without auditioning for the role — and it seems bold of her to think she could wave-off a chance to be in “Star Wars” at this time in her career.

Sure, “Anora” was a huge hit, and cleaned up during the entire 2025 award show season — but that could very well be a one-off.
Winning one Oscar doesn’t solidify Madison as a full-blown career actress.
She’s at a high point and I get it, but this doesn’t necessarily mean people are going to line up to bring her into classic franchises, and this reported decision seems like a dangerous game to play.

This could end up being a power play on her part because “Star Wars” isn’t performing as well as it has previously, but I just wonder if the “power” part of that is being taken too far.
It’s easy to feel high when riding the wave, but it can also come crashing down. (RELATED: Josh Brolin Says He’s Quitting Acting Over Oscars Snub)
Levy has already tapped Ryan Gosling for the film and Jonathan Tropper is writing the screenplay, according to Variety.
Only time will tell if this was a good call for the rising star, but from where I’m standing, it’s a roll of the dice.
