After Pope Francis fell ill and was placed in the hospital due to double pneumonia, which eventually saw him pass away at 88 years old, the top Italian soccer league decided to postpone their entire slate of Monday matches.

“Following the passing of His Holiness, Lega Nazionale Professionisti Serie A can confirm that today’s league games in Serie A and Primavera 1 have been postponed,” read the post. “The date of the rearranged fixtures will be announced in due course.”

The matches postponed were Cagliari and Fiorentina, Parma and Juventus, Torino and Udinese, and Genoa and Lazio.

The games have been rescheduled to Wednesday, Apr. 23.

Pope Francis‘ death came Monday morning, only one day following his appearance in Vatican City’s St. Peter’s Square that showed honor towards the Easter holiday.

Francis did a blessing for thousands of people while on the St Peter’s Basilica balcony.
