Former Republican National Committee Chairman Reince Priebus brushed off concerns on President Donald Trump’s approval ratings just ahead of his 100th day back in the White House, contending that the president is “doing exactly what he said he was going to do.”
Ahead of Trump’s 100th day in office on Tuesday, the president’s approval rating has dropped below 40% — the lowest for any president at the 100-day mark of their first or second terms in office in roughly 80 years. However, Priebus contended that Trump is still in the “restructuring” phase of his presidency, in which the president is working on incorporating everything he promised to voters.
“But there’s some good news, too: inflation is down, rates are down, gas prices are down. I think what you’re going to see, and I think what was revealing in Scott Bessent’s interview, is the next 100 days, which is the rebuilding 100 days, which is cutting deals on the tariffs, which is calming people down as far as where we’re going in the economy, the tax cuts that are probably likely coming to the economy,” Priebus explained on ABC News’s This Week.
Priebus added that despite the current bumps in Trump’s first 100 days, the president is still “doing exactly what he said he was going to do,” which runs counter to the promises other politicians make. He also acknowledged that some people dislike Trump’s use of tariffs, but argued it is “going to come around.”

Former Democratic National Committee Chairwoman Donna Brazile then suggested that Trump has failed to fix the cost of living on his first day in office, and that he is “crushing dreams” through his handling of the economy. She also admitted the Democratic Party is also undergoing massive disapproval ratings from the public, which Priebus attributed to the party pursuing things that are “highly unpopular,” listing the party defense of Kilmar Abrego Garcia following his deportation to El Salvador.
Despite his low approval ratings on his first 100 days in office, Trump is planning to celebrate the landmark by hosting a rally in Michigan. Meanwhile, an event celebrating the 47th president’s first 100 days back in the White House is being held in Arlington, Virginia.
