(The Center Square) – Former President Joe Biden is bring treated for an aggressive form of prostate cancer that also has spread to his bones, his personal office announced Sunday.
“Last week, President Joe Biden was seen for a new finding of a prostate nodule after experiencing increasing urinary symptoms,” the office said in a statement. “On Friday, he was diagnosed with prostate cancer, characterized by a Gleason score of 9 (Grade Group 5) with metastasis to the bone.”
Biden, 82, dropped his bid for re-election last summer after top Democrats and donors raised concerns about his mental acuity and physical health. Biden’s office says he and his family “are reviewing treatment options with his physicians.”
“While this represents a more aggressive form of the disease, the cancer appears to be hormone-sensitive which allows for effective management,” the statement said.
Biden political foe President Donald Trump said he and his wife Melania wished Biden a fast recovery.
“Melania and I are saddened to hear about Joe Biden’s recent medical diagnosis,” Trump wrote on social media. “We extend our warmest and best wishes to Jill and the family, and we wish Joe a fast and successful recovery.”
