Thieves reportedly ransacked a cannabis shop owned by comedian Bill Maher and actor Woody Harrelson at 4:30 a.m. Saturday, making off with stolen merchandise.
TMZ shared video footage captured by Elliot Lewis, who owns a weed shop in the town. It seems to show a security guard firing shots at what appeared to be the same crew of thieves hitting another cannabis store in Santa Monica the following night. The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department reported that five burglars broke into and ransacked Maher and Harrelson’s store, called The Woods, on Santa Monica Boulevard, according to ABC7 News. The robbers wore hoodies and seemed to smash a window to gain entry.
The video footage showed the five suspects running into Maher and Harrelson’s store through the smashed window, filling their bags with merchandise. They ran around the store grabbing various items before making their way back out with approximately $2,000 to $3,000 worth of goods.
“They went in and they just randomly took stuff off the shelves,” co-owner Michael Berman told ABC7 News.
“While there was a lot of mess from the broken glass, nobody was hurt. They got merchandise, but they didn’t actually damage too much inside,” he said.
Berman said he was shocked to see that one of the suspects appeared to be a child.
The Woods officially opened in West Hollywood as a 21+ cannabis consumption lounge approximately three years ago. Maher and Harrelson’s joint venture sells marijuana products and offers private smoking rooms where patrons can smoke up with bongs, dab rigs or papers. Lewis referred to the robbers as “The Jack Boys” through the video. The identities and ages of the suspects have not been disclosed as of Tuesday afternoon.
