Start planning the parties, Philly! (Again)
Over the past few campaigns, the hardest play to stop in the NFL has been the “tush push.” As a matter of fact, it’s so hard to stop that even a group of franchise owners couldn’t beat it Wednesday. And this is after many thought the group could.
Made popular by the Philadelphia Eagles, the quarterback-sneak play continues to be legal after a vote to nix it didn’t gather the numbers needed from league owners at the NFL’s spring meetings. The event was hosted in Minnesota. In order for the ban to get through, 24 out of 32 owners had to vote in that direction. It fell short by two votes, according to reports from ESPN and NFL Network. The tush push has spread throughout the league since its introduction, but it was Philadelphia who put it on the map, starting in 2021 during the first season for head coach Nick Sirianni. In 2022, the Birds unleashed another version where two or more players got behind their quarterback (Jalen Hurts) to push him ahead, adding momentum to his forward progression.
The Eagles issued an absolutely glorious response to the news on social media, and a beautifully simple one at that: “Push On.”
