“I respect the rights of those who do not share my beliefs, but to teach my faith to my children and to share it with anyone who will listen – that is my right, too.” – Marco Rubio
Marco Rubio’s been in national politics since being elected to the U.S. Senate in 2010. The Florida Republican’s only other foray onto the political scene was when he tossed his Miami Dolphin’s hat in the ring as he entered the 2016 presidential race to run against his current boss, Donald Trump.
Many Americans have watched Marco Rubio languish in the halls of the U.S. Senate for over a decade with little concept of his value to America. It was not until Donald Trump anointed him secretary of State that people noticed him. Rubio is “the man behind the scenes” defending the rights of Americans. “He walks softly and he carries a big stick” for every cause he believes in. Rubio is a foreign policy hawk who condemns U.S. complacency toward China, Russia, Iran and Latin American dictators. Rubio is always the last man standing in a dog fight for America.
Born May 28, 1971, Rubio is a Cuban American with a Juris Doctorate from the University of Miami. He is the first Hispanic secretary of state. He represented Florida in the U.S. Senate from 2011 to 2025 as a member of the GOP. He serves as the U.S. national security advisor, and archivist for the U.S. as well as administrator for the Agency for International Development. As the son of Cuban immigrants, he vowed to rid the world of communists, rogue dictators and terrorist leaders.
From an early age, Rubio learned the importance of community, faith, family and respected work.
Rubio is passionate about the American Dream because he’s lived it himself. He was drawn to public service because of conversations with his grandfather, who witnessed how communism destroyed his homeland. He promised his family he’d never let that happen in the U.S.
Due to his influence promoting U.S. policy on Latin America during the first Trump administration, he was described as a “virtual secretary of state for Latin America.” He was also one of Congress’s most hawkish members with regards to Communism. He is so feared in every communist country that the Chinese government sanctioned him in 2020 and banned him from ever entering China.
Considering that Rubio sparred with Donald Trump during Trump’s first presidential bid, and his first term in office, he was Trump’s hands down choice for Secretary of State during his second term. The Senate voted unanimously to confirm Rubio for Secretary of state.
“If there is a federal job that must be done, one person I can depend on to get it done is Marco.” – Donald Trump
Rubio endorsed Trump for president in 2024, days before the Iowa caucuses.
After meeting his wife Jeanette, (a cheerleader for Rubio’s favorite team, the Miami Dolphins) he served as a City Commissioner in West Miami and Speaker of the House of Representatives. In 2010. He won a seat in the U.S. Senate and served there until 2025. Rubio claims he is the only senator to catch passes from Tim Tebow. (These passes were thrown off of the playing field.)
During his tenure in the Senate, Rubio was committed to serving the people of America in every state in the nation. He said, “My job is to keep America strong, and keep America a resilient nation for many generations to come.” His resume is impressive. He was a senior member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, vice chair of the Senate Committee on Intelligence, a member of the Senate Appropriations Committee, as well as head of the Senate Small Business Committee.
Rubio authored the Uyghur Forced Labor Prevention Act, which represents the greatest turning point in U.S.-China relations in decades. He also led the Hong Kong Relations Act Movement and the VERDAD Act. Rubio worked with Trump to hold members of the Cuban regime’s feet to the fire, including the Cuban dictatorship’s military holding company. He also created the Paycheck Protection Program, which helped save millions of U.S. small businesses when COVID-19 hit.
Those inside the beltway criticized many of Trump’s cabinet picks, especially his pick for vice president. But they had no problems giving Rubio several major jobs in the White House. On May 1, Trump announced he would be removing national security adviser Mike Waltz and naming him ambassador to the UN. This removed him from the White House’s inner circle.
Trump shared on Truth Social, in Waltz’s absence, Rubio will serve as the acting national security adviser in addition to his many other White House positions. Rubio is the first person to hold both positions since Henry Kissinger.
“Free enterprise makes all people prosperous, and big government makes people poorer.” – Marco Rubio
Rubio often talks about faith, and went into depth about his religious convictions in his 2012 book, “An American Son: A Memoir.” Rubio and his wife, Jeannette, often visit Miami’s Christ Fellowship, a Southern Baptist congregation. The Rubios appreciate its style of preaching and their children’s programs. Rubio has donated $50,000 to this church and attended services there. But following his own motto “Once a Catholic, always a Catholic, his religious home is in the Catholic churches in Florida. He will go to Christ Fellowship, and St. Louis Catholic Church in Washington, D.C.
“I believe Jesus Christ is God. He loves every single human being that has ever lived.” -Marco Rubio
Before the last election, a reporter asked Rubio his opinions on leadership. Rubio slowly retorted, “Our national motto is ‘In God we Trust,’ reminding us that faith in our Creator is the most important of all values. Leadership cannot be measured in a poll or even in the result of an election. It can only be truly seen with the benefit of time – from the perspective of 20 years, not 20 days. I learned in my time working in government, important decisions are always a work in progress for our leaders.”
Rubio took the initiative to make the first call to broker a ceasefire between India and Pakistan that prevented a conflict between two nuclear countries. He has been lauded from all parts of the globe, as a peacemaker at a time we needed peace the most.
Rubio has shown the world that his time has come. and we are blessed to have him on our side. Judging by what he has already done in his short but substantial career in government, his very best years are still ahead of him.
Marco Rubio has moved to the head of the class and there is no turning back for him – only moving forward.
“Conservatism is not about leaving people behind. Conservatism is about empowering people to catch up, to give them the tools at their disposal that make it possible for them to access all the hope, all the promise, all the opportunity that America offers. And our programs to help them should reflect that.” – Marco Rubio
