How are you gonna disrespect a legend like this?!
PGA’s biggest prick Rory McIlroy won’t be competing at the upcoming Memorial Tournament for the first time in seven years. As you may already know, the event is hosted by the iconic Jack Nicklaus and is featured on the PGA Tour.
McIlroy deciding not to participate was a bit of a shocker throughout the golf realm, but that’s not the problem. McIlroy can do whatever he wants in that regard. The issue comes with how Nicklaus found out. Instead of McIlroy just picking up the phone and giving a legend the respect he deserves, Nicklaus found out like we all did.
Talking with the press Tuesday prior to the opening round Thursday, Nicklaus revealed that he and McIlroy didn’t speak with one another prior to the tournament field getting completed. (RELATED: Scottie Scheffler Scores Two Major Wins In One Weekend With Baby’s Special Moment Caught On Camera)
Questioned if it shocked him that McIlroy didn’t contact him and let him know that he wasn’t going to be there, Nicklaus stated “a little bit” prior to expressing his opinion on the situation.
“Guys have got schedules and got things they do. And, you know, I haven’t talked to him for him to tell me why or why not. It’s just his call,” said Nicklaus. “I made a lot of calls that I had to make when I played to play or not play, and sometimes it wasn’t as popular as people thought it was. But, you know, sometimes you have to make those calls.”
“I don’t hold anything against Rory for that. He did what he likes to play. I know he likes to play so many in a row. He likes to play the week before a U.S. Open. And so he, that’s what he’s doing. So, you know, I really don’t have a comment on it. It’s very difficult, very difficult,” he continued.
“I mean, I’m a big Rory fan, I always have been. I’m sure that I will remain that way,” Nicklaus stated.

Seriously though, Rory, you couldn’t pick up the phone? … What a friggin’ prick.
