And the insanity continues …
The girls softball state tournament for the Minnesota State High School League (MSHSL) has kicked off, and so has the scandal connected to the starting pitcher of Champlin Park.
A biological male (transgender) athlete, Marissa Rothenberger dominated Wednesday morning by tossing a complete-game shutout in the Class 4A quarterfinals, leading No. 2-seeded Champlin Park to a 5-0 victory over No. 7-seeded Eagan, per OutKick. In total, Rothenberger tallied four strikeouts and had seven hits allowed en route to his “win.”
In back-to-back contests, Rothenberger tossed 14 shutout innings during the sectional finals that landed Champlin Park into the state tournament. At this point, the male has tossed 21 straight shutout innings throughout the postseason.
With that being said, Rothenberger’s success is breeding anger, as it should. (RELATED: California Must Really Hate Females After Taking Girls Track Victory Away For Celebration)
Two parents of Eagan student-athletes, who spoke anonymously to OutKick, spoke about their frustrations following the contest. A mom, who was sporting a “Save Girls’ Sports” shirt, stated that the result felt like it was a guarantee with the circumstances.
“I was pretty disappointed and frustrated,” she told OutKick. “I think we’ve seen this happen over and over again to our girls. You look online, and you see women transitioning to men, and they’re not dominating any of the men’s sports. You don’t see that. But on the women’s side, you see it over and over again across the country. It’s super frustrating. I knew it was eventually going to happen to my daughter. I was sad to see it happen to her.”
One Eagan student-athlete’s dad agreed with the mother, branding this entire ordeal as a federal violation, which it is.
“Yeah, I think it’s completely unfair — violation of federal Title IX,” said the father, per OutKick. “And the fact that the state of Minnesota wants to ignore that is ridiculous. If they want to continue to play sports — which I think is great — you can play baseball. But to do that to girls and just make everybody stay quiet about stuff is pretty ridiculous.”
