Donald Trump hosted a rally Saturday in Wilmington, North Carolina, but before he landed, he made sure to give Port City golfers one hell of a show.

It was a beautiful September day. A glorious day on the links. Zero humidity. A light breeze. The sun was shining kindly upon us golfers. I was playing a scramble with my brother at the Wilmington Municipal Golf Course when, around 2 p.m., Donny T’s Trump Force One soared over the course. I had never seen an airplane fly over the Wilmington muni. It is not on the flight path for the Wilmington International Airport. So when this massive jet came screaming across the sky over hole number 5, I was perplexed. Was it about to make a crash landing on the fairway?

However, I immediately recognized the iconic navy, the red band wrapping around the entire plane, the American flag on the aircraft’s rudder. The plane also had aura, as the kids say. Something about it was electric. It was Trump alright, saluting fellow golfers before landing for his rally.

This was a deliberate move from Trump. I have no doubt. The former president is a golfer himself, and has an incredible amount of respect for the game, unlike Joe Biden, who lies about his handicap.

Trump is also a man of the people. He is one of us. You can’t tell me a man who loves golf, who was nearly killed for it, who putts from 30 yards off the green, is not directing his pilot to fly over the Wilmington golf course to pay homage to course designer Donald Ross and the thousands of local scratch golfers who riddle it with darts every weekend. Trump knew what he was doing. He wanted golfers to have a day.

So, Mr. President, thank you for the flyover.
