Tyreek Hill has reportedly hired a group of A-list lawyers to address his run-in with Miami Police during a traffic stop arrest Sept. 8 — and one of them represented George Floyd.
The Miami Dolphins wide receiver is demanding police reform after being dragged from his car and pinned to the ground in handcuffs while en route to a game. He has since called for the firing of the police officer in question and has made big moves to secure himself in the battle against the police.
The NFL star has hired a slew of attorneys including Julius B. Collins, Jeffrey A. Neiman, Stephen B. Kelly Jr. and Devon M. Jacob — who worked directly on the Floyd case in 2020, according to Daily Mail.
“Tyreek intends to continue the national movement for necessary police reform that George Floyd’s death started,” Collins said in a statement. “Tyreek is demanding that Congress finally pass the George Floyd Justice in Policing Act.”
Collins addressed Danny Torres, the officer who apparently drove his knee into Hill’s back during the incident.
“It is already clear that well before this incident, Miami-Dade County should have fired Officer Torres,” he said.
“Instead, the County repeatedly returned Officer Torres to the street permitting him to use his police authority to terrorize people.”
“Had officers not realized that they were interacting with Tyreek Hill — a well-known, beloved, educated, and seemingly wealthy black man – this traffic stop would likely have ended with the driver in jail, in the hospital, or like George Floyd, dead,” Collins said, according to Daily Mail.
Hill has since admitted that he could have acted differently during his exchange with the police.
“Now, does that give them the right to literally beat the dog out of me? Absolutely not. But at the end of the day I wish I could go back and do things a bit differently.” (RELATED: Police Release Bodycam Footage Of Tyreek Hill’s Detainment)
