Police in southwestern Arizona arrested a former NFL running back late Monday and charged him with drunk driving-related offenses, according to reports.
The police pulled over Eddie Lacy, 34, and arrested him after receiving reports that he was potentially impaired and observing him allegedly committing traffic violations, the CBS affiliate AZFamily reported.
Lacy faces several charges, including “Extreme DUI” for allegedly exceeding a BAC of .20, as well as possession of an open liquor container in a vehicle, according to the outlet.
The police reportedly took Lacy to the Scottsdale City Jail.
The former Green Bay Packers tailback was released early Tuesday morning, a jail official told TMZ. (RELATED: REPORT: Former Star Cornerback Arrested For DUI)
Lacy, a University of Alabama student-athlete from 2009 to 2012, was named Offensive Most Valuable Player (MVP) after his final game for the university during the 2012 Bowl Championship Series (BCS) Championship.
The Green Bay Packers selected Lacy 61st overall in the second round of the 2013 NFL Draft. Lacy immediately stole fans’ hearts with his over-2,000-yard runs and 20 touchdowns in his first two seasons. He was the AP NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year in his first season.
His next two seasons with the Packers saw him struggle to sustain his form, rushing for 758 yards in 15 games in 2015 and 360 yards with no touchdowns in 2016. He reportedly struggled with drinking and eating the wrong diet and gaining weight. He was also once benched for a curfew violation and suffered an ankle injury.
Facing open criticism of his weight and fitness problems from the Packers’ then-head coach, Mike McCarthy, Lacy shed some weight with professional help in 2016 and appeared fit again.
Lacy reportedly moved on in 2017 to the Seattle Seahawks, where he played nine games, running the ball 69 times for 179 yards and no touchdowns.
His NFL career ended with his 2017-2018 season with the Seahawks.
