A group of exotic dancers reportedly sued retired boxer Floyd Mayweather, alleging the boxer owes wages and made threats trying to intimidate them.
One dancer also claimed he slapped her in the face, according to The Athletic, the first outlet to report on the lawsuit.
The exotic dancers all worked for Las Vegas strip club “Girl Collection” and two of them filed a class and collective action suit Monday in Clark County Nevada District Court, on behalf of all dancers that worked for the organization, according to The Athletic. Girl Collection is owned by Mayweather and his sister, Deltricia Howard.
The dancers said Mayweather and Howard misclassified them as independent contractors rather than employees and failed to pay them minimum wage for the hours they worked. The dancers also accused the boxing champion and Howard of forcing them to pay fees and portions of their tips to other employees, which they claim is a violation of the Fair Labor Standards Act, according to The Athletic
The newly filed court documents include allegations that Mayweather slapped one of the dancers in the face in front of her colleagues when she approached him about pay, April 23, 2023. She claimed that Mayweather hit her and then followed her into the locker room area, telling her she could not “take a joke,” according to The Athletic.
She said she was then fired “for her perceived involvement in this Court case and for requesting her wages from previous shifts.”
The lawsuit reportedly goes on to allege that Mayweather determines when dancers are allowed to leave for the night and “often decides how much of the dancers’ tips will be retained by the club for a given shift.” The dancers also claim the former boxing champion and his sister “threatened, intimidated and retaliated against them” after they filed a previous lawsuit in federal court in 2023, according to The Athletic.
That case was dismissed in August and was then refiled in state court with the assault accusations added.
Attorney Matthew Thomson is representing the dancers and claimed to possess text message chains that will be included as an exhibit in a court filing.
“We believe strongly that Girl Collection was exploiting the entertainers and violating state and federal wage laws, and that Mayweather played a direct role in all of this,” Thomson said, according to The Athletic. (RELATED: Garth Brooks Faces Rape, Sexual Assault Allegations: REPORT)
The dancers seek back pay and damages and want their employment status adjusted to reflect that they are employees and not independent contractors.
