Sydney Sweeney Describes How Moving To LA Destroyed Her Family

Sydney Sweeney opened up about how her aspirations of becoming an actress affected her family in an interview with Glamour published Thursday.

The famous actress admitted she was fully obsessed with pursuing an acting career from the age of 12. She said she began pitching the idea to her parents, telling them she wanted to act full-time, and went as far as creating a PowerPoint presentation to convince them to approve. They drove her back and forth to Los Angeles for almost two years, taking a 38-hour round trip each time, until finally, they decided to make it official and relocate. Sweeney said this ultimately worked for her career, but took a devastating toll on her parents, according to Glamour.

Sweeney said the move pushed her family beyond their financial limits and put a deep stress on their marriage. The star said by 2016 her parents made the difficult decision to file for bankruptcy, and their familial dynamics became tense. Her parents divorced that same year, according to Glamour.

“There was a moment where I stopped wanting to go home, which made me really sad because I felt like a failure,” Sweeney told the publication, as she recalled the pressure.

“I knew that I could never actually fail because, I mean, on a very broad scale, my family did lose everything,” she said.

“They did get a divorce. Whether or not that was because of coming here, it definitely was a catalyst for it. So I knew I had to succeed in some capacity so that it wasn’t for nothing.”

She admitted it was a heavy burden for her to carry during her teenage years, but is able to look back with gratitude and is now doing great thing for her family, in recognition of their sacrifices.

“I’ve accomplished and bought everything myself, and I provide for myself and my family,” she told Glamour.

The famous “Stranger Things” star said she proudly paid off her mother’s mortgage, and was able to fly her grandparents to Italy to visit her on set.  She said she purchased her uncle’s dream boat for the family lake.  Sweeney hasn’t forgotten where she came from, and is now very careful with her finances.

“I come from a family where I saw my parents lose everything, and I am terrified of that,” she said. (RELATED: ‘Would Have Made Me A Movie Star’: David Schwimmer Reveals He Turned Down ‘Men In Black’ Role)

“That fear will always be instilled in me. I’m a huge saver. I don’t just go and spend money. I like to invest. I like real estate. I like making, hopefully, smart choices with the money I’m making. But I don’t think I’ll ever actually feel comfortable,” she told Glamour.
