Needless to say, the JJ Redick era in Los Angeles is going to be interesting…
The legendary Duke Blue Devil and former NBA star is coming into his first season as the Los Angeles Lakers head coach, and as a result, he’s got a mammoth spotlight put on him — which usually happens when you have LeBron James as your main superstar. Oh, and let’s also not forget his son Bronny is on the team. But JJ’s name happens to amplify it as well.
After his 15 years in the NBA, Redick went on to have a successful career in the media, even co-hosting a podcast with LeBron. With that being said though, Redick has never been a head coach before, so getting his first gig with the prestigious Lakers, it’s going to amplify the attention even more. Well, Los Angeles kicked off their 2024 training camp this week, and Redick ended up having quite the exchange with a reporter after a recent practice about power forward Rui Hachimura and if he “could take that next step.”
And boy oh boy… Grab your popcorn for this one.
WATCH:
JJ Redick answered the Rui question beautifully.
Reporter: Do you think Rui could take that next step for you guys?
JJ: what is the next step?
Reporter: you tell me?
JJ: you tell me, you’re creating the narrative… IDC about next step, I care about how he impacts winning. pic.twitter.com/sgr6WX5mXQ
