All Hell Breaks Loose As Buccaneers, Jaguars Fight Over Coach. Jags GM Allegedly Gets Fired For Flubbing Situation

All Hell Breaks Loose As Buccaneers, Jaguars Fight Over Coach. Jags GM Allegedly Gets Fired For Flubbing Situation All Hell Breaks Loose As Buccaneers, Jaguars Fight Over Coach. Jags GM Allegedly Gets Fired For Flubbing Situation

This is truly one of the wackiest stories I’ve ever covered in sports.

When it comes to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ history books, you better believe they’re going to leave this out of it, because holy hell, the situation with Liam Coen leaving the Bucs for the Jacksonville Jaguars to become their next head coach is truly bizarre. With that being said, it’s nothing but a big bucket of popcorn to us fans, because the drama is unreal!

So let’s get started, and make sure you pay attention, because the turns and twists are everywhere in this thing.

After originally agreeing to become the Jaguars head coach, Coen decided Wednesday to stay in Tampa to remain the Buccaneers offensive coordinator. One of the main reasons for that was because of Jaguars general manager Trent Baalke not appealing to him.

In order to lock in Coen, Tampa Bay gave him a deal that would see him become one of the highest paid coordinators in the NFL, to which Coen agreed to verbally. From there, it looked like he was locked in with the Bucs, even telling several assistant coaches and players that he was staying put. Oh, and as a part of the verbal deal, he was to no longer have conversations with the Jaguars. As far as signing an actual contract, Coen was supposed to do that Wednesday, but that didn’t happen. Then Thursday came, another day to ink that contract, but nope, that didn’t happen either. And to make it even crazier, nobody knew where Coen was and he wasn’t answering phone calls from anybody.

Well, come to find out, he was having a meeting with Jaguars owner Shad Khan. Khan wanted Coen so badly that he ended up firing Baalke, and then afterwards, requested a meeting with Coen which he took. And just like that, the Jags were back in the mix after Coen caught a flight to Jacksonville. And like I said, this is after Coen already told Tampa he was staying! And nobody in the Buccaneers organization knew about his flight!

This was all going on while the Buccaneers thought they had their offensive coordinator in the bag, but instead, he was in Jacksonville getting a deal done to become the next Jaguars head coach.

Yikes.

Absolutely insane stuff, and something that pinpoints the cutthroat nature of the National Football League.
