Authorities Target Prison Holding Diddy In ‘Interagency Operation’: REPORT

Officials from the Bureau of Prisons, the Department of Justice’s inspector general’s office and additional federal agencies targeted the Metropolitan Detention Center (MDC), Monday, according to the Bureau of Prisons.

Federal law enforcement activated an “interagency operation” at the federal jail in Brooklyn, New York, where Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs is currently held without bail, according to The Associated Press (AP). The Bureau of Prisons said its Brooklyn mission was planned previously and “no active threat” exists. The facility faced scrutiny over allegations of bad conditions, serious violence and several deaths.

The Bureau of Prisons said the operation was “designed to achieve our shared goal of maintaining a safe environment for both our employees and the incarcerated individuals housed at MDC Brooklyn,” according to the AP.

Prison officials did not release specific information on the operation that unfolded Monday, but maintained that they are increasing efforts to ensure the prison’s problems are rectified and perpetrators are held accountable for their actions.

Federal prosecutors charged nine people incarcerated in the MDC in connection with a series of attacks there between April and August this September. An inmate allegedly kicked off a murder-for-hire plot using a contraband cellphone from behind bars earlier in October. That inmate was  awaiting sentencing on another shooting years prior, according to the AP.

Charges allege two inmates were fatally stabbed and a third was jabbed in his spine in recent months, according to the AP. A correctional officer was accused of shooting at a car amid an unsanctioned high-speed chase. Inmates have long accused the jail of appalling conditions, lack of staff and considerable smuggling of drugs and other illicit items. These items were at times allegedly facilitated by employees of the prison.

The Bureau of Prisons said it would withhold any further details until the investigation was carried out “in an effort to maintain the safety and security of all personnel inside the facility and the integrity of this operation.” (RELATED: Diddy Placed On Suicide Watch In Prison: REPORT)

The Metropolitan Detention Center is the only federal jail in New York City. In addition to Combs, the prison also houses Sam Bankman-Fried. Lower Manhattan’s Metropolitan Correctional Center , which once housed Jeffrey Epstein, was closed in 2021.
