In an absolute stand for women, the Boise State women’s volleyball program made the announcement Tuesday night that they were forfeiting their Mountain West Tournament semifinal match against transgender athlete Blaire Fleming and San Jose State.
The team didn’t state a reason for why exactly they decided to forfeit, but it’s pretty clear that they had no interest in playing a biological male.
Back in the regular season, Boise State forfeited two matches that they had scheduled against SJSU, but with the recent match being in the conference tourney, a lot of expectations had the Broncos playing. And not just for the MWC championship, but for a bid into the NCAA Tournament as well. But nope, the Boise State ladies stood up for what’s right in a true “we ain’t having this” moment.
“The decision to not continue to play in the 2024 Mountain West Volleyball Championship tournament was not an easy one. Our team overcame forfeitures to earn a spot in the tournament field and fought for the win over Utah State in the first round on Wednesday,” wrote Boise State Athletics in an official statement. “They should not have to forgo this opportunity while waiting for a more thoughtful and better system that serves all athletes.”
With their forfeit, Boise State’s season officially comes to an end, but they’re already getting glory with their grade-A move.
