The first celebrity to be named as an alleged accomplice in the Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs case is Jay-Z.
A civil lawsuit named the music mogul, whose real name is Shawn Carter, alleging he raped a 13-year-old girl in 2000 along with Diddy, according to NBC News. The anonymous accuser is referred to as “Jane Doe.” She claimed the assault took place at an MTV Video Music Awards after-party. The federal lawsuit was first launched in October in the Southern District of New York. Combs was named as a defendant in the initial filing. Carter was named in a refiling Sunday, according to NBC News.
Doe claimed she was 13 years old at the time of the alleged assault, according to NBC News. She said in the lawsuit that she arrived at the VMAs at Radio City Music Hall without a ticket. She said she approached various limousine drivers to gain access, and claimed one of the drivers said he worked for Combs. Doe alleged that he told her she “fit what Diddy was looking for” and proceeded to transport her to a party later that evening.
She said in the lawsuit that she was asked to sign a document that she now believes was a non-disclosure agreement before entering the party. Once inside, Doe claimed someone provided her a beverage and she became “woozy, lightheaded and felt [like] she needed to lie down.” The legal documents went on to say she entered a room to rest, according to NBC News.
The suit said Combs and Carter entered the room with Combs saying, “you are ready to party!” Doe alleged Carter disrobed her, kept her down and raped her while Combs and an unnamed female celebrity watched, according to NBC News.
She alleged Combs also raped her as Carter and the woman observed.
The court filing claimed that she prevented being coerced into performing oral sex on Combs by striking him in the neck and that he “stopped” at that time, according to NBC News.
The lawsuit was filed by Texas-based attorney Tony Buzbee’s law office. Buzbee was the lawyer who famously came forward to say his firm was representing over 120 alleged victims in the case against Diddy.
Carter issued a lengthy statement calling the allegations “idiotic” and accused Buzbee of acting unprofessionally, the outlet reported.
“These allegations are so heinous in nature that I implore you to file a criminal complaint, not a civil one!! Whomever would commit such a crime against a minor should be locked away, would you not agree?” Carter said in a statement issued to NBC News.
“These alleged victims would deserve real justice if that were the case,” he said.
“Carter received a letter from Plaintiff’s counsel requesting a mediation to resolve this matter” prior to the refiling of the lawsuit, Buzbee wrote in the court documents, according to NBC News.
After receiving the letter, Carter filed his own lawsuit against the accuser’s attorneys, Buzbee added.
Carter maintained his innocence and pushed back against the allegations.
“You have made a terrible error in judgement thinking that all ‘celebrities’ are the same,” Carter said in his statement, Dec. 8.
“I’m not from your world. I’m a young man who made it out of the project of Brooklyn. We don’t play these types of games. We have very strict codes and honor. We protect children,” he said.
“My only heartbreak is for my family,” Carter said in the statement, according to NBC News.
“My wife and I will have to sit our children down, one of whom is at the age where her friends will surely see the press and ask questions about the nature of these claims, and explain the cruelty and greed of people. I mourn yet another loss of innocence,” he continued.
“Only your network of conspiracy theorists, fake physics, will believe the idiotic claims you have levied against me that, if not for the seriousness surrounding harm to kids, would be laughable,” Carter said, according to the outlet.
Legal representatives for Combs dismissed the suits Buzbee has filed as “shameless publicity stunts, designed to extract payments from celebrities who fear having lies spread about them, just as lies have been spread about Mr. Combs,” according to NBC News.
“As his legal team has said before, Mr. Combs has full confidence in the facts and the integrity of the judicial process. In court, the truth will prevail: that Mr. Combs never sexually assaulted or trafficked anyone—man or woman, adult or minor,” they said in their statement, according to NBC News.
Doe is after unspecified damages. The lawsuit falls within the purview of New York’s Victims of Gender-Motivated Violence Protection Act. (RELATED: Alleged Victim Says Celebrity Couple Participated While Diddy Raped Her)
Combs was arrested in September on charges including racketeering and sex trafficking. He remains in custody at Brooklyn’s Metropolitan Detention Center after three failed attempts at bail. His trial is set to begin on May 5.
