The Border Patrol is prepared to face down any increase of violence or threats along the southern border, according to a Border Patrol official who spoke on background with The Daily Signal.
If needed, Border Patrol will surge additional resources to the border to ensure the safety of its agents, the official explained.
In memos circulated among U.S. Customs and Border Protection and reported on by NewsNation, the Mexican cartels have reportedly authorized the use of “weaponized drone explosives against border agents and other U.S. law enforcement” along America’s border with Mexico.
The Border Patrol official declined to comment on the leaked memos, but made it clear that any threat against the men and women who serve at the border won’t be tolerated. Additionally, the official noted that partnerships at the federal, state, and local level are critical for ensuring the safety of all agents and law enforcement officers involved in securing the U.S. border.
Human and drug smuggling is a billion-dollar business for the cartels. Smugglers are paid for moving product, whether that product is drugs or people. Since President Donald Trump’s inauguration, there is an increased presence of Border Patrol agents and military personnel at the border.
Trump also, through executive action, ended the Biden administration asylum parole programs. These actions and others have led to a sharp decline in illegal border crossings. When revenue streams are cut off, the risk of smugglers taking their frustrations out on agents increases.
Lt. Christopher Olivarez, a spokesperson for the Texas Department for Public Safety, wrote on X that there were fewer than 500 illegal crossings at the southern border on Tuesday. For comparison, illegal crossings just between ports of entry at the southern border averaged more than 1,500 as recently as December, and averaged 4,000 a day last January.

In May 2024, aerial footage captured the moment illegal aliens threw rocks and sand at Border Patrol agents when they tried to apprehend them.
