Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie settled their bitter divorce eight years after Jolie filed to end the marriage.
Jolie’s lawyer, James Simon, issued a statement to Page Six on Dec. 30.
“More than eight years ago, Angelina filed for divorce from Mr. Pitt. She and the children left all of the properties they had shared with Mr. Pitt, and since that time she has focused on finding peace and healing for their family,” he said. “This is just one part of a long ongoing process that started eight years ago. Frankly, Angelina is exhausted, but she is relieved this one part is over.”
Pitt and Jolie were the celebrity “it” couple when they met while filming the 2005 movie “Mr. & Mrs. Smith.” Pitt was married to “Friends” star Jennifer Aniston at the time. Pitt accompanied Jolie to Ethiopia that same year to adopt daughter Zahara, and legally adopted her as well as Jolie’s first adopted child, Maddox, the following year. Months later, their biological daughter Shiloh was born.
Branded “Brangelina” for their high-profile status, the couple went on to welcome an adopted son named Pax in 2007. Just one year later, Jolie and Pitt had twins Knox and Vivienne. They were engaged in 2012 and were married two years later on their own multimillion-dollar winery, Château Miraval, in France.
By 2016 the couple’s marital issues were made public. The actress proceeded to file for divorce.
Jolie’s allegation that Pitt was physically violent on a private plane became public in 2022. Pitt denied all wrongdoing and authorities cleared the actor. The estranged couple spent years battling one another over custody, finances and ownership of property.
A judge awarded Pitt joint custody in 2021, but the ruling was overturned two months after when it was determined that the judge had a conflict of interest in the case, according to Page Six. (RELATED: Judge Sentences Brad Pitt’s Former Body Double Luke Ford To 16 Years Behind Bars)
The two remained embattled in a series of legal disputes over the years, and Pitt’s relationship with his children has been strained.
Jolie has waived “any right to receive” spousal assistance from the actor “forever,” court documents filed by the actress’ attorneys and obtained by the outlet revealed. Further details surrounding the divorce settlement have not been publicly shared at this time.
