Bachelor parties are getting out of control.

And no, I don’t mean in a good way. I don’t mean in the sense that bachelor parties are becoming more and more like the plots of The Hangover. (Subscribe to MR. RIGHT, a weekly newsletter about modern masculinity)

A former Daily Caller colleague, writer Gage Klipper, made a great point on Friday: bachelor parties are now obscenely expensive due, in part, to inflation.

If you have ever been to a bachelor party, you know they can cost you an arm and a leg. Depending on where you live, you have to buy a plane ticket or make a long drive. Then you usually are splitting the costs of an over-priced rental house, or staying at some kind of luxury resort or hotel.

Throw in the booze. The bar tabs. Dinners. Maybe a few rounds of golf, and you’re staring at a dark void in your checkings account.

But men are also making it worse. It’s not just inflation on the staples like drinks and golf. Men are planning out absurd activities for their bachelor ‘trips’, ranging from ATV riding and jet skis, to concerts and pro sports games. It’s no longer a party or a weekend. It’s a bachelor trip.

We need to return to basics. Men can’t be like women on bachelorette ‘trips’, planning out every little last detail, turning what should be a relaxing time into summer camp for adults. Bachelor parties should be simple. Rent a decent house that can fit everyone who’s attending; drink at the house, at a bar; golf; go to the beach if you’re close to one. That’s it.
